Beacham Family
One of the first settler families to arrive in the Shire was the Beachams. William Beacham was born about 1794 in Sussex England. He was married to Mary Scott from Barnham in the UK, the daughter of William Scott and Elizabeth Hudson.
William arrived in WA aboard the ship "Lotus" on the 6th October 1829 with his wife Mary and their 5 children. He was one of Latour's men. They lived in Perth and Guildford for a time before settling on the Murray River at Pinjarra on the "Jim Jam" property on about 1836.
William worked for Charles Browne, the original owner of "Jimjam" until William paid a 300 pound deposit on the farm with, we suspect, with help from George Green, son-in-law. Eventually the farm was paid off in 1841.
The Colony was only 6 months old, when Mary was believed to have died and was buried on the beach at Clarence. The Only evidence of the date of death was recorded on the fly leaf of a book that was held by the Late Edna Kelly.
